Chocolate Croissants

Being still on a baking spree I thought to bake breads but not the plain loaves again. So after some browsing, I zeroed in to the croissants. And that's mainly because of the beautiful looking pattern and layers.
Chocolate filled croissants were always one of my preferred varieties. And I was amazed to see that the recipe is no different than a regular bread.
I really enjoyed making these cuties and seeing the final baked product with the beautiful colour on the outer crust is deeply satisfying.

I baked this batch with 100% all purpose flour, but if you wish you can replace it with a mix of whole wheat flour and all purpose flour. The recipe would be same as the whole wheat bread in my other blog.

Quick Recipe

  • Dissolve 2tbsp sugar in half cup warm milk. While it's still lukewarm, add 0.75 tbsp active dry yeast and mix it . Leave it undisturbed for 5-10 mins to activate.
  • Take 2cups of all purpose flour and 1tsp salt. Mix well and add the activated yeast .
  • Add 2tbsp sugar to it and knead. Add another half cup milk and knead well. It should be wet and sticky.
  • After 5 mins of kneading, add 1tbsp butter and knead well. If it's too sticky , add 1-2tsp oil and knead again. Total kneading time would be around 10 mins.
  • Grease a bowl and tuck in the dough and keep it to rest for a minimum of 1hr.
  • When risen to double the size, knead the dough for a minute .
  • Make small balls out of the dough and roll thin like a chapati. Dust some flour on it and keep it aside.
  • Brush butter on each of the rolled sheets and stack up . So the number of balls will be the number of layers in your croissant.
  • Roll the stack again with a rolling pin so that it gets a little more stretched.
  • Cut through the rolled dough to make triangles. You can give 6 cuts to get 12 triangles.
  • Give a 1/2 inch slit on the outer side of the triangle. Place a chocolate piece and roll towards the inner corner.
  • Apply some water on the corner so that it sticks well after rolling.
  • Leave it on the counter to rise for at least 20 mins.
  • Brush milk on top and bake in a pre heated oven at 180 degrees for 20 mins.
  • Brush some butter on top and enjoy it warm after 5 mins

Try it and let us know how it turned out 😊

Happy Cooking 😊😊
