Wheat buns and breads

Whole wheat breads are an easy and most preferred options these days for a quick and healthy breakfast. Have two slices with an omlette and you're good to start your day with the required carbs and proteins.
Or just have it with a spread of homemade peanut butter and you're good to go for the days when eggs are out of stock . Have a look at the recipe of Peanut butter in our other blog.

So recently I have been trying out baking breads and I'm really enjoying it. And being lucky enough , I got great results every time. Being not so confident initially, I tried out making breads out of plain all purpose flour and results were good. So after trying out milk bread, garlic bread and garlic knots, I thought to give a try to healthier breads and replaced the all purpose flour with whole wheat flour. And trust me, the breads came out equally soft . 😊

My next try would be on multigrain breads and will post the recipe once I get it right 😉

I tried out both loaves and buns with the same dough. So scroll down for the recipe 😊

Quick Recipe
  • Dissolve 2tbsp sugar in half cup warm milk. While it's still lukewarm, add 0.75 tbsp active dry yeast and mix it . Leave it undisturbed for 5-10 mins to activate.
  • Take 1.5 cups of whole wheat flour and 0.5 cups of all purpose flour and 1tsp salt. Mix well and add the activated yeast .
  • Add 2tbsp sugar to it and knead. Add another half cup water and knead well. It should be wet and sticky.
  • After 5 mins of kneading, add 1tbsp butter and knead well. If it's too sticky , add 1-2tsp oil and knead again. Total kneading time would be around 10 mins.
  • Grease a bowl and tuck in the dough and keep it to rest for a minimum of 1hr.
  • When risen to double the size, knead the dough for a minute .
  • Roll it thick with a rolling pin, or just stretch it with your hands like a thick chapati and fold it to make a loaf. Make sure to join the edges by pinching it else it will open up while baking.
  • Place in a greased loaf tin and leave it to rest for another 20 mins to rise. Once risen, brush some milk on top . Sprinkle some sesame seeds and pumpkin seeds.
  • Bake it for 30 mins in a preheated oven at 180 degrees.
  • When done, rub some butter on top, cover with a towel and allow it to cool for a softer bread.

For making buns, just take a small portion from the dough  and make balls by tucking in (it helps to trap air) and place in the greased baking tray. Leave it for 20 mins to rise and follow the same instructions for baking.
